Components, turbochargers, and methods of forming the components

A method of forming a component, the method comprising the steps of:

• coating solid film lubricant particles with a particle coating material having a greater resistance to oxidation than the solid film lubricant particles when subjected to a predetermined processing temperature;
• mixing the coated solid film lubricant particles with at least a first inorganic material to produce a coating powder mixture;
• applying the coating powder mixture over a substrate;
• heating the coating powder mixture to the predetermined processing temperature to melt the first inorganic material and form a heat-treated coating over the substrate;
• and
• polishing a surface of the heat-treated coating to remove a portion of the particle coating material from the solid film lubricant particles located at the surface and yield a plurality of partially-surrounded solid film lubricant particles exposed through the polished surface of the heat-treated coating.
