Abstract
Microfluidic assay detectors and microfluidic assay detection methods are disclosed. A microfluidic chip is coupled to a light emitting device, emission filters and excitation filters. Excited fluorescent light is detected by a camera and a lens. The correspondent reading allows parallel detection of features such as antigens and biomarkers. A microfluidic filter and related methods are also disclosed. The filter can be used with on-chip fluid filtration such as whole blood filtration for microfluidic blood analysis. The filter is able to filter the necessary volume of fluid and in particular blood in an acceptable time frame.
Claims17
A microfluidic system comprising:
- i) an excitation filter;
- ii) an emission filter;
- iii) a microfluidic circuit located between the excitation filter and the emission filter, the microfluidic circuit comprising a fluorescence source;
- iv) a light emitting device to excite the fluorescence source;
- and
- v) a detecting arrangement for detecting fluorescence images on the microfluidic circuit;
- vi) a three-dimensional polymeric structure, the three-dimensional structure being a monolithic polymeric cast of a mold, the monolithic polymeric cast further comprising a fluidic filter element embedded within the polymeric cast, the mold comprising:
- a top pin;
- a bottom pin connected with the top pin but separable from the top pin, the bottom pin including an internal pin;
- a top piece connected with the top pin;
- and
- a bottom piece connected with the bottom pin;
- and
- wherein the polymeric cast is a microfluidic filtering device, the microfluidic filtering device adapted to filter fluid, when in use, and
- wherein the microfluidic circuit is adapted to receive, when in use, the filtered fluid.
