Abstract
An irrigation system has a water distribution system, a controller, and a pet monitoring system. The controller may modify an irrigation setting of the water distribution system based on a pet elimination signal from the pet monitoring system. The pet elimination signal may correspond to an event such as a pet urination event.

A device comprising:
- a first module configured to receive an input corresponding to a pet entering a grassy area;
- and
- a second module generating an initiation trigger signal in response to the input, the initiation trigger signal instructing a monitoring system to detect an elimination event, wherein the elimination event is to be associated with a waste product deposition of a waste product by an animal.
