A computer usable program product comprising a computer usable medium including computer usable code for managing an elevator queue, the computer usable code comprising:

• computer usable code for storing a plurality of requests in the elevator queue;
• computer usable code for determining whether the elevator queue is sorted;
• computer usable code for determining, responsive to the elevator queue being unsorted, a number of requests in the elevator queue;
• computer usable code for monitoring the elevator queue, the elevator queue being an unsorted elevator queue;
• computer usable code for detecting reaching a threshold condition in the unsorted elevator queue;
• computer usable code for initiating sorting the unsorted elevator queue to form a sorted elevator queue;
• and
• computer usable code for identifying, from the plurality of requests, a set of requests in the sorted elevator queue to coalesce.

A data processing system for managing an elevator queue, the data processing system comprising:

• a storage device including a storage medium, wherein the storage device stores computer usable program code;
• and
• a processor, wherein the processor executes the computer usable program code, and wherein the computer usable program code comprises:
• computer usable code for storing a plurality of requests in the elevator queue;
• computer usable code for determining whether the elevator queue is sorted;
• computer usable code for determining, responsive to the elevator queue being unsorted, a number of requests in the elevator queue;
• computer usable code for monitoring the elevator queue, the elevator queue being an unsorted elevator queue;
• computer usable code for detecting reaching a threshold condition in the unsorted elevator queue;
• computer usable code for initiating sorting the unsorted elevator queue to form a sorted elevator queue;
• and
• computer usable code for identifying, from the plurality of requests, a set of requests in the sorted elevator queue to coalesce.
