Abstract
Techniques for automatic virtual machine migration in a mixed SBC/CBC environment are described herein. According to one embodiment, a connection is established between a client and a virtual machine (VM) hosted by a remote node in response to a request for accessing the VM. A control server determines whether the client has sufficient processing resources to host the VM. The control server causes the VM to be migrated from the remote node to the client if the client has sufficient processing resources to host the VM. Other methods and apparatuses are also described.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method, comprising:
- in response to a signal indicating a start up of a client device, causing, by a control server, a virtual machine (VM) to automatically launch at a remote node before the client device finishes the start up, wherein the client device receives input data representing application commands for the VM;
- establishing, by the control server, a connection between the client device and the VM hosted by the remote node, in response to a request for accessing the VM;
- determining, by a control server, whether the client device has sufficient processing resources to host the VM;
- and
- causing, by the control server, the VM to be migrated from the remote node to the client if the client device has sufficient processing resources to host the VM.
A computer readable storage medium including instructions that, when executed by a processing system, cause the processing system to perform a method comprising:
- in response to a signal indicating a start up of a client device, automatically launching a virtual machine (VM) at a remote node before the client device finishes the start up, wherein the client device receives input data representing application commands for the VM;
- establishing a connection between the client device and the VM hosted by the remote node, in response to a request for accessing the VM;
- determining, by a control server, whether the client device has sufficient processing resources to host the VM;
- and
- causing, by the control server, the VM to be migrated from the remote node to the client device if the client device has sufficient processing resources to host the VM.
A system, comprising:
- a client detection unit coupled to the registration unit to detect a start up of a client device and to automatically launch a virtual machine (VM) at a remote node before the client device finishes the start up, wherein the client device receives input data representing application commands for the VM;
- an access control unit to establishing a connection between the client device and the VM hosted by the remote node, in response to a request for accessing the VM;
- a resource manager coupled to the access control unit to determine whether the client device has sufficient processing resources to host the VM;
- and
- a migration unit coupled to the resource manager to cause the VM to be migrated from the remote node to the client device if the client device has sufficient processing resources to host the VM.
The further comprising:
- a registration unit coupled to the access control unit to associate the VM with the client device prior to establishing the connection.
