Abstract
A Digital Signal Processor (DSP) cloud architecture for clustering DSP resources across multiple integrated media-services gateways. The control plane components use peer-to-peer overlay connections for DSP resource management. The data plane components use a Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) for media stream packet processing.

An apparatus, comprising:
- a gateway host central processor;
- and
- at least one digital signal processor;
- wherein the gateway host central processor is configured to communicate with a gateway host central processor of an external server employing a peer to peer communication protocol;
- wherein the a gateway host central processor is configured to communicate with a digital signal processor associated with the external server via a virtual local area network;
- wherein the at least one digital signal processor is configured to communicate with the gateway host central processor of the external server via a virtual local area network;
- wherein the gateway host central processor is configured to propagate a remove message with data identifying a digital signal processor associated with the external server responsive to detecting failure of the digital signal processor associated with the external server;
- wherein the remove message is propagated to all neighboring servers except for the external server;
- and
- wherein the remove message further comprises a timestamp.

A method, comprising:
- establishing a peer to peer connection by a central processing unit associated with a first server and to a central processing unit associated with a second server;
- establishing a layer 2 virtual local area network connection with the central processing unit associated with the first server to a digital signal processor associated with the second server;
- establishing a layer 2 virtual local area network connection between a digital signal processor associated with the first server and the central processing unit associated with the second unit;
- detecting a failure of the digital signal processor associated with the second server by the central processing unit associated with the first server;
- sending a remove message with data identifying the digital signal processor associated with the second server responsive to detecting the failure of the digital signal processor associated with the external server by the central processing unit associated with the first server;
- and
- wherein the remove message is propagated to all neighboring servers except for the second server and wherein, and
- wherein the remove message further comprises a timestamp.

Logic encoded on at least one non-transitory tangible media for execution and when executed operable to:
- establishing a peer to peer connection between a central processing unit of a first server and a central processing unit associated with a second server;
- establishing a layer 2 virtual local area network connection between the central processing unit associated with the first server and a digital signal processor associated with the second server;
- establishing a layer 2 virtual local area network connection between a digital signal processor associated with a first server and the central processing unit associated with the second unit;
- detecting a failure of the central processing unit associated with the second server;
- continuing to communicate with the digital signal processor associated with the second server via the layer 2 virtual local area network response to detecting the failure of the central processing unit associated with the second server;
- and
- sending a remove message with data identifying a digital signal processor associated with the second server responsive to detecting failure of the digital signal processor associated with the second server;
- wherein the remove message is propagated to all neighboring servers except for the second server;
- and
- wherein the remove message further comprises a timestamp.
7 more elements
A system, comprising:
- a first server comprising a host central processing unit and at least one digital signal processor;
- a second server comprising a host central processing unit and at least one digital signal processor;
- wherein host the central processor units of the first and second servers employ a peer to peer communication protocol to communicate with each other;
- wherein the host central processor unit of the first server employs a virtual local area network (VLAN) to communicate with the second server's at least one digital signal processor;
- wherein the host central processor unit of the second server employs a VLAN to communicate with the first server's at least one digital signal processor;
- and
- wherein the host central processing unit of the first server continues to employ the VLAN to communicate with the second server's at least one digital signal processor while the host central processing unit of the first server is unable to communicate with the second server's host central processing unit;
- wherein the host central processing unit of the first server is operable to propagate a remove message with data identifying a digital processor associated with the second server responsive to detecting failure of the digital signal processor associated with the second server;
- wherein the remove message is propagated to all neighboring servers except for the second server;
- and
- wherein the remove message further comprises a timestamp.
