Abstract
A system and method for printing multiple postage indicia, such as an outbound and/or an associated return postage meter stamp, including a desired postage amount, onto a document or label is described. A processor based system is programmed to interact with a customer to produce the desired postage indicia and to print multiple ones of the indicia substantially contemporaneously. The indicia may include information to allow their use at a later date and/or from a location other than where they are produced.
Claims26
A multi-part label comprising:
- a postage indicia label portion;
- and
- an address label portion, wherein the postage indicia label portion, and the address label portion are removably disposed upon a same carrier substrate for automated manipulation by a printer mechanism to print a postage indicia upon the postage indicia label portion, and to print an address upon the address label portion during a same printing operation, and wherein the postage indicia label portion and the address label portion are cut to provide separate portions of the multi-part label,
- wherein said postage indicia label portion and said address label portion are adjacent each other, and wherein said postage indicia label portion and said address label portion are disposed on a common face of said carrier substrate.

A method comprising:
- obtaining address data, wherein said address comprises an addressee address and an addressor address, wherein said addressee address is associated with an addressee of a postal item to be posted, and wherein said addressor address is associated with an addressor of the postal item;
- generating, by a postage generating computer processor, a first postage indicia data comprising addressee information from said addressee address and a second postage indicia data comprising addressor information from said addressor address;
- and
- printing said first postage indicia data as a first postage indicia upon a first indicia label portion of a multi-part label, said second postage indicia data as a second postage indicia upon a second indicia label portion, and at least a portion of said address data as an address upon an address label portion of said multi-part label, wherein said first postage indicia label portion, said second postage indicia label portion, and said address label portion are each disposed upon a single document and are each separate and removable, and wherein said address label portion is adjacent at least one of said first postage indicia label portion and said second postage indicia label portion on said single document.

A multi-part mail item comprising:
- a document to be mailed;
- a postage indicia label portion located on the document, wherein the postage indicia label portion is sized and shaped to accommodate a postage indicia having a machine readable barcode;
- a first address label portion located on the document;
- and
- a second address label portion located on the document, wherein the postage indicia label portion, the first address label portion, and the second address label portion are removably disposed upon the document, for automated manipulation by a printer mechanism to print the document, to print a postage indicia corresponding to the document upon the postage indicia label portion, and to print addresses upon the first and second address label portions during a same printing operation, wherein the addresses correspond to the location the document will be mailed and the location the document will be mailed from.
