Abstract
A seismic source signal generator having feed-forward control uses pressure, current, and/or valve position sensors to detect system component parameters. Initial and operating parameters are processed during source operation to remove, partially or wholly, harmonic distortions from the seismic source signal.
Claims25
A seismic source signal apparatus for generating a seismic source signal, the apparatus comprising:
- a seismic source component for coupling to the earth;
- one or more sensors sensing an initial parameter and an operating parameter of the seismic source component, the initial parameter comprising a first hydraulic supply pressure and a first hydraulic control pressure of the seismic source component, the operating parameter comprising a second hydraulic supply pressure and a second hydraulic control pressure of the seismic source component;
- and
- a controller processing the initial parameter and processing the operating parameter during operation of the seismic source component, the controller generating a feed-forward signal with the processed initial and operating parameters and controlling the seismic source component using the feed-forward signal,
- wherein an output of the seismic source component includes the seismic source signal imparted into the earth with harmonic distortions generated by the seismic source component at least partially removed from the seismic source signal.
2 more elements
A seismic signal generation apparatus, comprising:
- a seismic source component having a controllable valve and a hydraulic actuator, the controllable valve having a supply port and a return port and having first and second ports communicating with the hydraulic actuator, the controllable valve controlling hydraulic pressure for the hydraulic actuator;
- one or more sensors sensing hydraulic pressure relative to the controllable valve;
- a controller operatively coupled to the seismic source component and the one or more sensors, the controller configured to:
- generate a primary control signal to operate the controllable valve,
- obtain pressure values from the one or more sensors in advance of operation to the seismic source component, the pressure values comprising at least one of supply pressure values measured relative to the supply and return ports, control pressure values measured relative to the first and second ports, or both the supply and control pressure values,
- generate a feed-forward signal from the pressure values obtained,
- adjust the primary control signal for the controllable valve with the feed-forward signal, and
- operate the seismic source component with the adjusted control signal to generate a seismic signal having at least partially removed harmonic distortion.
