Methods and machine tools for processing workpieces

A machine tool for processing workpieces comprising a first processing tool;

• a positioning device arranged to position a workpiece and the first processing tool relative to each other in a positioning direction with a positioning movement;
• a stroke drive arranged to move the first processing tool and the workpiece during the positioning movement and transversely to the positioning direction and towards each other with an outward-stroke movement and away from each other with a return-stroke movement;
• and
• a control device arranged to control the positioning device and the stroke drive such that an outward-stroke movement and a return-stroke movement are executed during the positioning movement;
• wherein the control device comprises an evaluation unit that
• simultaneously obtains progress values of the return-stroke movement and of the positioning movement;
• ascertains a relative return-stroke progress value based on the progress values of the return-stroke movement and of the positioning movement, wherein the relative return-stroke progress value represents the progress of the return-stroke movement as a function of the progress of the positioning movement;
• and
• defines parameters for the control device;
• and
• wherein the control device controls the outward-stroke movement as a function of the relative return-stroke progress value and based on the parameters.
