Abstract
The present invention overcomes various problems by defining two upstream masks (U1, U2) and two downstream masks (D1, D2) and using a mask selectable system for the long reach digital subscriber line (LDSL), in which a unique modem feature is activated during handshake to automatically check for physical layer status in terms of spectral compatibility and, thus, automatically optimize the boosted mode with the use of the mask selectable system choose the best combination of upstream/downstream masks in any physical layer noise scenario.
Claims21
A Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) system comprising:
- a mask-selectable operator configured to select a spectral mask based on a mask selection criteria,
- wherein the mask selection criteria comprising:
- a weighted ratio of upstream rates and downstream rates;
- and
- a cost function based in part upon the weighted ratio;
- wherein the mask-selectable operator selects a spectral mask based in part upon a determination of whether the cost function is greater than a predetermined value,
- wherein the mask-selectable operator selects a spectral mask combination comprising:
- a U1 upstream mask or a U2 upstream mask;
- a D1 downstream mask or a D2 downstream mask;
- and
- wherein the predetermined value is zero, and wherein a Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) combination is selected if the cost function is greater than zero.
A Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) system comprising:
- a mask-selectable operator configured to select a spectral mask based on a mask selection criteria,
- wherein the mask selection criteria comprising:
- a weighted ratio of upstream rates and downstream rates;
- and
- a cost function based in part upon the weighted ratio;
- and
- wherein the mask-selectable operator selects a spectral mask based in part upon a determination of whether the cost function is greater than a predetermined value, a priority given to an upstream minimum rate, and a priority given to a downstream minimum rate, wherein the mask-selectable operator selects a spectral mask based in part on the priority given to the upstream minimum rate up to a first margin and based in part on the priority given to the downstream minimum rate up to a second margin.
