Adhesive, coating or film composition applied to a surface

An adhesive, coating or film composition applied to a surface wherein, the composition comprises a polymer formed from at least one N-substituted acrylamide monomer represented by at least one of the formulae (I), (II), (III) or (IV)

• wherein
• Q is a divalent linking radical selected from the group consisting of one or more of a C6-C12 arylene and aralkylene;
• wherein the linking radical is unsubstituted or substituted by one or more C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 haloalkyl, halogen, —P(O)(OR4)(OR5), -Q′-P(O)(OR4)(OR5), —P(O)(OR4)(R6), -Q′-P(O)(OR4)(R6), hydroxy or C1-C4 alkoxy;
• or
• Q is a C2-C12 alkylene interrupted by one or more —O—, —S—, —NR4—, —O(CO)—, —S(CO)—, —OC(O)O—, —NR4—C(O)—O—, —C(O)— or —NR4(CO)—;
• R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen, branched or unbranched C1-C4 alkyl;
• R3 is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, -Q″-P(O)(OR4)(OR5) or -Q″-P(O)(OR4)(R6);
• Q′ and Q″ are the same or different and are at least a divalent radical selected from the group consisting of one or more of a C1-C18 alkylene, C6-C12 arylene, and aralkylene;
• wherein the divalent radical is unsubstituted or substituted by one or more C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 haloalkyl, halogen, —P(O)(OR4)(OR5), —P(O)(OR4)(R6), hydroxy or C1-C4 alkoxy;
• or
• Q′ and Q″ are a C2-C12 alkylene interrupted by one or more —O—, —S—, —NR4—, —O(CO)—, —S(CO)—, —OC(O)O—, —NR4—C(O)—O—, —C(O)— or —NR4(CO)—;
• R4 and R5 are independently H, C1-C4 alkyl wherein the C1-C4 alkyl is branched or unbranched, unsubstituted or substituted by C1-C4 alkyl, C6-C12 aryl or halogen;
• and
• R6 is branched or unbranched C1-C8 alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, wherein the C1-C8 alkyl, aryl, aralkyl is unsubstituted or substituted by one or more C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 haloalkyl or halogen and the surface is selected from the group consisting of a metallic pigment particle, metal, glass, ceramic fiber, sheet metal and metal alloys, wherein at least one of R4 or R5 of formulae (I) or (III) is hydrogen.
