Abstract
A system for imaging an abnormal cell and or diseased tissue after topical application of a near infrared protease-specific probe is disclosed. The system includes a protease-specific near infrared (NIRF) imaging probe, means for topically administering the protease-specific probe to a diseased tissue and an imaging device capable of detecting the interaction between the protease-specific NIRF imaging probe and the diseased tissue. A method and surgical procedure are also disclosed.

A system, comprising:
- a protease-specific near infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging probe;
- means for topically administering the protease specific NIRF imaging probe to a diseased tissue;
- and
- an imaging device to detect an interaction between the protease specific NIRF imaging probe and the diseased tissue.
A method, comprising:
- topically applying a protease-specific near infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging probe to an area in which an abnormal cell may be located;
- and
- detecting, with an imaging device, probe activation induced by an interaction between the protease-specific NIRF imaging probe and one of, an abnormal cell, and an abnormal cell secreted molecular product.
A system, comprising:
- a protease-specific near infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging probe;
- means for topically administering the protease-specific NIRF imaging probe to an abnormal cell;
- an imaging device to detect an interaction between the protease-specific NIRF imaging probe and an abnormal cell;
- and
- a computing device including planning logic to plan one or more of, intra-operative imaging (IOI) and therapeutic strategy based, at least in part, on the interaction between the protease-specific NIRF imaging probe and the abnormal cell.
A method for performing a medical procedure, comprising:
- topically applying a protease-specific near infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging probe to an area in which an abnormal cell may be located;
- imaging one of, the interaction between the protease-specific NIRF imaging probe and an abnormal cell and the interaction between the protease-specific NIRF imaging probe and a product of an abnormal cell;
- and
- performing surgery on the imaged abnormal cell, where the surgery includes resection and ablation.
The method claim of 28, comprising:
- controlling a computing device to plan one or more of, intra-operative imaging (IOI), and therapeutic strategy based, at least in part, on the interaction between the protease-specific NIRF imaging probe and the abnormal cell.
