Light emitting diode

A light emitting diode comprising:

• an epitaxial layer having a first surface and a second surface that is opposite to said first surface;
• an electrode disposed on said second surface of said epitaxial layer and in ohmic contact with said epitaxial layer;
• a plurality of electrically conductive members formed on said first surface of said epitaxial layer in ohmic contact with said epitaxial layer and spaced apart from each other;
• a light incident layer formed on said first surface of said epitaxial layer at regions where none of said electrically conductive members are formed, and having a refractive index lower than a refractive index of said epitaxial layer, and a height larger than a height of each of said electrically conductive members;
• a light reflecting layer formed on said light incident layer and said electrically conductive members, and having indented parts where said light reflecting layer overlies said electrically conductive members such that said light reflecting layer does not contact said first surface of said epitaxial layer, and non-indented parts where said light reflecting layer overlies said light incident layer;
• a thermosetting adhesive disposed in said indented parts of said light reflecting layer;
• and
• an electrically conductive permanent substrate formed on said light reflecting layer and said thermosetting adhesive, wherein said permanent substrate is bonded to said light reflecting layer through said thermosetting adhesive.
