Abstract
A transfer coping configured to take an impression of an implant is disclosed. The transfer coping has an impression material contact portion and an implant mating portion. The implant mating portion has at least one support portion and at least one deflection portion configured to be received within an opening on a coronal portion of an implant. The at least one protrusion is disposed on the at least one deflection portion and is configured to engage in a snap-fit manner with a coordinating feature of an implant. A method for identifying the position of an implant in a patient is also disclosed.
Claims25
A transfer coping configured to take an impression of an implant, the transfer coping comprising:
- an impression material contact portion;
- an implant mating portion configured to be received within an opening of a coronal portion of an implant, the implant mating portion comprising a plurality of substantially rigid support portions and a plurality of deflection portions alternatingly disposed relative to one another and configured to mate with portions of the implant defining the opening;
- and
- a protrusion disposed on each of the plurality of deflection portions and configured for snap-fit engagement with a respective coordinating feature of the implant, wherein the snap-fit engagement is sufficiently strong to maintain engagement of the transfer coping with the implant to take an impression.
A method for identifying the position of an implant in a patient, comprising:
- inserting an implant mating portion of a transfer coping within an opening of the implant, the implant mating portion comprising a plurality of substantially rigid support portions and a plurality of deflection portions alternatingly disposed relative to one another, and a protrusion on each of the plurality of deflection portions;
- engaging the transfer coping to the implant by snap-fitting the protrusions with a respective coordinating feature on the implant, wherein the snap-fitting engagement is sufficiently strong to maintain engagement of the transfer coping with the implant to take an impression;
- forming an impression around an impression material contact portion of said transfer coping with an impression material;
- and
- removing the impression with the transfer coping attached.
