Apparatus and method for vending securely stored products to consumers

A lock mechanism, comprising:

• a rotary latch having a latch portion and a latch trigger, each being rotationally mounted to the lock mechanism for rotation in a first plane, the latch portion being configured for rotation between a locked position and an unlocked position, the latch portion being biased into the unlocked position by a biasing member and the latch trigger is biased in a direction opposite a biasing direction of the biasing member of the latch portion, wherein the latch trigger engages and retains the latch portion in the locked position when the latch portion is rotated into the locked position;
• and
• a first lock mechanism for releasing the latch portion from the locked position after actuation of the first lock mechanism, the first lock mechanism releases the rotary latch from the locked position by rotating the latch trigger away from the latch portion after the latch trigger has engaged the latch portion and the biasing member rotates the latch portion into the unlocked position, the latch portion being capable of being manipulated back into the locked position from the unlocked position after release by the first lock mechanism and the first lock mechanism must be reset in order to once again release the rotary latch, wherein the first lock mechanism further comprises a cam member having a first portion for releasing the rotary latch from the locked position, the cam member rotating in a second plane in a first direction when the first mechanism is reset and the first lock mechanism is actuated, the second plane being different from the first plane;
• and
• a second lock mechanism, the second lock mechanism engaging a second portion of the cam member after the cam member has rotated in the first direction in the second plane and has released the rotary latch from the locked position, the second lock mechanism preventing further rotation of the cam member in the first direction after the cam member has released the rotary latch from the locked position by engaging the second portion of the cam member, wherein the first lock mechanism is reset by disengaging the second portion of the cam member from the second lock mechanism such that further rotation of the cam member in the first direction is possible.
