Abstract
A circuit design is simulated in a simulation environment. When a simulation model in the simulation environment transfers state information to a second simulation model, the simulation environment receives the state information and makes it available to the second simulation model without simulating the transfer through the simulated circuit design.
Claims16
A method in an electronic design automation environment, comprising:
- co-simulating a design using at least a software simulator and a hardware simulator including a plurality of simulation models;
- simulating a first transfer of data from a first simulation model, which is implemented in the software simulator or the hardware simulator, to a second simulation model, which is implemented in the software simulator or the hardware simulator, by simulating a transfer protocol to transfer data between the first and second simulation models;
- and
- simulating a second transfer of data from the first simulation model to the second simulation model by writing the data from the first simulation model to a coherent state storage, which is a memory that is not part of the design being simulated, and loading the data from the coherent state storage into the second simulation model, wherein the first simulation model and the second simulation model have access to the coherent state storage for communicating there between, wherein the first transfer of data occurs over a simulated data bus extending between the first and second simulation models and the second transfer of data occurs without using any simulated data bus.

A machine readable storage device having stored thereon machine executable instructions that when executed implement a method comprising:
- identifying state information comprising a transfer from a first simulation model in a simulation environment including both hardware and software simulators, said transfer being directed to a second simulation model in a circuit design being simulated in the simulation environment;
- receiving the state information from the first simulation model;
- and
- making the state information available to the second simulation model without simulating the transfer in the circuit design through use of a coherent state storage accessible to both the first and second simulation models;
- the coherent state storage being a memory that is not part of the simulated circuit design and wherein the transfer occurs without using any simulated data bus.
