A liquid crystal apparatus, comprising:
- a pair of substrates;
- and
- a liquid crystal layer held between said substrates, said liquid crystal layer having positive dielectric anisotropy, the liquid crystal of said liquid crystal layer exhibiting, when no voltage is applied thereto, an orientation direction parallel to a transverse electric field which is generated when a voltage is applied to said liquid crystal layer.
A liquid crystal apparatus, comprising:
- a pair of substrates;
- and
- a liquid crystal layer held between said substrates, said liquid crystal layer having negative dielectric anisotropy, the liquid crystal of said liquid crystal layer exhibiting, when no voltage is applied thereto, an orientation direction perpendicular to a transverse electric field which is generated when a voltage is applied to said liquid crystal layer.
A liquid crystal apparatus, comprising:
- a pair of substrates joined together with a predetermined gap left therebetween;
- a liquid crystal layer held in the gap;
- and
- an electrode formed on at least one of said substrates for applying a transverse electric field parallel to the substrate to said liquid crystal layer,
- wherein,
- said liquid crystal layer is effective to exhibit, in a state wherein the transverse electric field is not applied, a light transmitting state whereas, in another state wherein the transverse electric field is applied, said liquid crystal layer exhibits a light scattering state.
A liquid crystal apparatus, comprising:
- a pair of substrates;
- and
- a liquid crystal layer held between said substrates, said liquid crystal layer having positive dielectric anisotropy;
- said liquid crystal layer having at least two orientation directions of the liquid crystal in one pixel, the liquid crystal of said liquid crystal layer exhibiting, in each of the regions in which the said liquid crystal layer exhibits the orientation directions, when no voltage is applied thereto, an orientation direction parallel to a transverse electric field which is generated when a voltage is applied to said liquid crystal layer.
A liquid crystal apparatus, comprising:
- a pair of substrates joined together with a predetermined gap left therebetween;
- a liquid crystal layer held in the gap;
- and
- an electrode formed on at least one of said substrates for applying an electric field in a predetermined direction to said liquid crystal layer,
- wherein,
- said liquid crystal layer is made of a liquid crystal material having positive dielectric anisotropy, and
- said liquid crystal layer is oriented, in a state wherein the electric field is not applied, in a direction parallel to the electric field.
A liquid crystal apparatus, comprising:
- a pair of substrates joined together with a predetermined gap left therebetween;
- a liquid crystal layer held in the gap;
- and
- an electrode formed on at least one of said substrates for applying an electric field in a predetermined direction to said liquid crystal layer,
- wherein,
- said liquid crystal layer is made of a liquid crystal material having negative dielectric anisotropy;
- said liquid crystal layer is oriented, in a state wherein the electric field is not applied, in a direction perpendicular to the electric field.
