Contour free point operation for video skin tone correction

A method for color tone correction in a display device, comprising the steps of:

• (A) generating a plurality of intermediate components by scaling a plurality of first color components of video towards an ideal color, wherein said first color components fall inside a region of a color space;
• (B) generating a plurality of corrected components by adjusting said intermediate components such that a mapping of said first color components to said corrected components is continuous in said color space;
• and
• (C) generating an image that is said color tone corrected by combining said corrected components with a plurality of second color components of said video that fall outside said region.

A display device comprising:

• means for generating a plurality of intermediate components by scaling a plurality of first color components of video towards an ideal color, wherein said first color components fall inside a region of a color space;
• means for generating a plurality of corrected components by adjusting said intermediate components such that a mapping of said first color components to said corrected components is continuous in said color space;
• and
• means for generating an image that is color tone corrected by combining said corrected components with a plurality of second color components of said video that fall outside said region.
