Abstract
A novel maize variety designated PHCGM and seed, plants and plant parts thereof. Methods for producing a maize plant that comprise crossing maize variety PHCGM with another maize plant. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into PHCGM through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. Hybrid maize seed, plant or plant part produced by crossing the variety PHCGM or a trait conversion of PHCGM with another maize variety. Inbred maize varieties derived from maize variety PHCGM, methods for producing other inbred maize varieties derived from maize variety PHCGM and the inbred maize varieties and their parts derived by the use of those methods.
Claims23
Maize variety PHCGM, representative seed of said variety having been deposited under ATCC accession number PTA-7527.
A maize variety comprising the genome of PHCGM, representative seed having been deposited under ATCC accession number PTA-7527, and further comprising at least one locus conversion relative to PHCGM, wherein said locus conversion confers a trait selected from the group consisting of male sterility, site-specific recombination, abiotic stress tolerance, altered phosphorus, altered antioxidants, altered fatty acids, altered essential amino acids, altered carbohydrates, herbicide resistance, insect resistance and disease resistance;
- and wherein said maize variety exhibits said trait and otherwise has the same morphological and physiological traits listed in Table 1 as those of PHCGM when grown in the same environmental conditions.
A process of producing a conversion of maize variety PHCGM further comprising at least one new trait, the process comprising:
- (a) crossing a plant of maize variety PHCGM, representative seed of which has been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-7527, with a plant of another maize variety that comprises at least one new trait to produce progeny seed;
- (b) harvesting and planting the progeny seed to produce at least one progeny plant of a subsequent generation, said progeny plant comprising the at least one new trait;
- (c) crossing the progeny plant with a plant of maize variety PHCGM to produce backcross progeny seed;
- (d) harvesting and planting the backcross progeny seed to produce at least one backcross progeny plant;
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) for at least three additional generations to produce a converted plant of variety PHCGM, wherein the converted plant of variety PHCGM further comprises the at least one new trait.
A maize variety comprising the genome of PHCGM, representative seed having been deposited under ATCC accession number PTA-7527, and further comprising at least one locus relative to PHCGM, wherein said locus conversion confers a trait selected from the group consisting of male sterility, site-specific recombination, abiotic stress tolerance, altered phosphorus, altered antioxidants, altered fatty acids, altered essential amino acids, altered carbohydrates, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, disease resistance;
- and wherein said maize variety exhibits said trait and has a Single Sequence Repeat profile with at least 95% identity to the Single Sequence Repeat profile of PHCGM.
