Abstract
Methods and apparatus for migrating and distributing processor tasks on a plurality of multi-processing systems distributed over a network. The multi-processing system includes at least one broadband entity, each broadband entity including a plurality of processing units and synergistic processing units, as well as a shared memory. Tasks from one broadband entity are bundled, migrated and processed remotely on other broadband entities to efficiently use processing resources, and then returned to the migrating broadband entity for completion or continued processing.
Claims38
A method of migrating a task over a network from a first multi-processor to one or more additional multi-processors, comprising:
- determining that a given task should be migrated from the first multi-processor to the one or more additional multi-processors;
- and
- broadcasting an application from the first multi-processor when it is determined that the given task should be migrated to the one or more additional multi-processors, wherein the application specifies a plurality of tasks to be migrated, including the given task, and an attribute indicating a distance of the application from at least one of (a) a previous multi-processor broadcasting the application and (b) a multi-processor originally broadcasting the application, and a deadline for completion of each of the plurality of tasks.
A system for migrating tasks, comprising:
- a network;
- a plurality of multi-processors connected to the network;
- means for determining that a given task should be migrated from a first one of the plurality of multi-processors to one or more additional ones of the plurality of multi-processors;
- and
- means for broadcasting an application from the first one of the multi-processors over the network when it is determined that the given task should be migrated to the one or more additional multi-processors, wherein the application specifies a plurality of tasks to be migrated, including the given task, and an attribute indicating a distance of the application from at least one of (a) a previous multi-processor broadcasting the application and (b) a multi-processor originally broadcasting the application, and a deadline for completion of each of the plurality of tasks.
An apparatus for migrating tasks, comprising:
- a first multi-processor connectable to a network and programmed to determine whether a given task should be performed by the first multi-processor or migrated to one or more additional multi-processors connected to the network;
- wherein the first multi-processor is operable to direct a broadcast of an application from the first multi-processor over the network when the first multi-processor determines that the given task should be migrated to the one or more additional multi-processors, wherein the application specifies a plurality of tasks to be migrated, including the given task, and an attribute indicating a distance of the application from at least one of (a) a previous multi-processor broadcasting the application and (b) a multi-processor originally broadcasting the application, and a deadline for completion of each of the plurality of tasks.
