Abstract
In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method for determining if a state of data is indicative of a first class of data, re-classifying the data from a second class to the first class based on the determination, and moving the data to a first portion of a shared cache associated with a first requester unit based on the re-classification. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Claims12
An apparatus comprising:
- a shared cache memory having a plurality of portions, each of the portions to store entries, wherein each entry is to include state information for data of the entry, the state information including a sharing field to identify each of a plurality of private caches coupled to the shared cache memory that includes a copy of the data, and each entry in the shared cache memory is to further include a first counter field to indicate a number of consecutive accesses to the entry by a requester core.
A system comprising:
- a processor including a plurality of cores, each core associated with one of a plurality of private caches;
- a first cache coupled to the plurality of private caches and having a plurality of portions, each of the portions to store entries, wherein each entry is to store state information including a classification indicator field to indicate whether the corresponding entry includes data stored according to a first location protocol, a first counter field to indicate a number of consecutive accesses to the entry by a requester core and a second counter field to indicate a number of accesses to the entry by different cores;
- a cache controller coupled to the first cache and to classify data stored in the first cache based on the state information;
- and
- a dynamic random access memory (DRAM) coupled to the first cache.
