Abstract
Methods and compositions for modulating development and defense responses are provided. Nucleotide sequences encoding defensin proteins are provided. The sequences can be used in expression cassettes for modulating development, developmental pathways, and defense responses. Transformed plants, plant cells, tissues, and seed are also provided.
Claims16
An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence that encodes a polypeptide that has defensin-like activity, wherein said nucleotide sequence comprises the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:451 between nucleotides 128 and 268.
A method for enhancing disease resistance in a plant, said method comprising:
- transforming a plant with at least one nucleotide construct comprising a nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:451 between nucleotides 128 and 268 encoding a polypeptide operably linked to a promoter that drives expression in said plant wherein said polypeptide has defensin-like activity;
- and
- regenerating said transformed plant.
A transformed plant comprising in its genome at least one stably incorporated DNA construct comprising a nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:451 between nucleotides 128 and 268, wherein said polypeptide has defensin-like activity.
