Abstract
A computer includes a processor. When an instruction to be executed by the processor involves writing to memory, the write can be redirected to a temporary page of memory. The correct amount of data can then be copied from the temporary page to the original target memory address. The advantages of the invention can be achieved, among other possibilities, via re-compiling the program or modifying instructions before execution.
Claims21
A computer (105), comprising:
- a memory (135) including at least one page (205, 210, 215, 220, 225) of memory (135) and a temporary page (405) of memory (135);
- and
- a processor (130), including:
- a redirector (140) to redirect a write instruction (150) from said one page (205, 210, 215, 220, 225) of memory (135) to said temporary page (405);
- and
- a copier (145) to copy a portion (410) of memory (135) from said temporary page (405) of memory (135) to said one page (205, 210, 215, 220, 225) of memory (135) after the write to said temporary page (405) is complete.
A method, comprising:
- identifying (705) an instruction (150) to write to an address (305) in a page (205, 210, 215, 220, 225) of memory (135) of a computer (105);
- establishing (710) a temporary page (405) in the memory (135) of the computer (105);
- redirecting (715) the instruction (150) to write to the address (410) to the temporary page (405) of memory (135);
- and
- copying (720) at least a portion (410) of the temporary page (405) of memory (135) to a corresponding portion (305) of the page (205, 210, 215, 220, 225) of memory (135).
An article, comprising a non-transitory storage medium, said non-transitory storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by a machine, result in:
- identifying (705) an instruction (150) to write to an address (305) in a page (205, 210, 215, 220, 225) of memory (135) of a computer (105);
- establishing (710) a temporary page (405) in the memory (135) of the computer (105);
- redirecting (715) the instruction (150) to write to the address (410) to the temporary page (405) of memory (135);
- and
- copying (720) at least a portion (410) of the temporary page (405) of memory (135) to a corresponding portion (305) of the page (205, 210, 215, 220, 225) of memory (135).
