Abstract
A method of analysing a network having a plurality of computing and infrastructure elements, some of which run agents that monitor one or more network phenomenon, the method comprising the steps of: disabling a selected infrastructure element on which it is not possible to run a monitoring agent; acquiring data from an element adjacent a disabled element; and generating, from the acquired data, a signature representative of the selected element being inoperative.

A method of analyzing a network having a plurality of computing and infrastructure elements, some of which run agents that monitor one or more network phenomenon, the method comprising the steps of:
- disabling a selected infrastructure element on which it is not possible to run a monitoring agent and the selected infrastructure element is in communication with an administrative computing device via a monitored network device, wherein the monitored network device runs the monitoring agent;
- acquiring data from the monitored network device connected to a disabled element, wherein the data is acquired by the administrative computing device from the monitored network device connected to the disabled element;
- generating, from the acquired data, a signature representative of the selected infrastructure element being inoperative, wherein the signature includes route information and addresses relating to the computing devices along a network pathway.
A computer program product including executable instructions embedded on a non-transitory computer-readable medium adapted to run on an administrative computing device in a network of computing devices and infrastructure elements some of which run agents that monitor one or more network phenomenon, the computing device being adapted to:
- dispatch data seeking to disable a selected infrastructure element on which it is not possible to run a monitoring agent and the selected infrastructure element is in communication with an administrative computing device via a monitored network device, wherein the monitored network device runs the monitoring agent;
- acquire data from the monitored network device connected to a disabled element;
- generate, from the acquired data, a signature representative of the selected element being inoperative, wherein the signature includes route information and addresses relating to the computing devices along a network pathway.
