Abstract
A method for compressing imaging data includes acquiring a stream of imaging data, and dividing the stream of imaging data into a plurality of interstices, each interstice including a plurality of detected events. The also includes classifying the detected events within each interstice based on a probability of occurrence of the detected event, and reordering the detected events within each interstice based on the probability of occurrence to compress the image data. The method further includes generating a ring pair identification number for each detected event in the plurality of interstices.

A method for compressing imaging data using a computer comprising:
- acquiring a stream of imaging data;
- dividing the stream of imaging data into a plurality of interstices, each interstice including a plurality of detected events;
- classifying the detected events within each interstice based on a probability of occurrence of the detected event;
- and
- re-ordering the detected events within each interstice based on the probability of occurrence to compress the image data.
A medical imaging system comprising:
- a detector array;
- and
- a computer operationally coupled to the detector array wherein the computer is programmed to:
- acquire a stream of imaging data;
- divide the stream of imaging data into a plurality of interstices, each interstice including a plurality of detected events;
- classify the detected events within each interstice based on a probability of occurrence of the detected events;
- and
- re-order the detected events within each interstice based on the probability of occurrence to generate lossless compressed image data.
A computer readable medium encoded with a program programmed to instruct a computer to:
- acquire a stream of imaging data;
- divide the stream of imaging data into a plurality of interstices, each interstice including a plurality of detected events;
- classify the detected events within each interstice based on a probability of occurrence of the detected event;
- and
- re-order the detected events within each interstice based on the probability of occurrence to compress the image data.
