Abstract
The present invention provides multi-generational production methods for producing pharmaceutically active proteins and other proteins in corn. The present invention also provides methods for breeding corn capable of producing pharmaceutically active proteins or other proteins.
Claims13
A method of producing a pharmaceutically active protein in corn plants comprising:
- a) obtaining a fertile R0 corn plant comprising a nucleic acid molecule encoding said pharmaceutically active protein;
- b) cross-pollinating a first set of hybrid corn plants with pollen produced by said R0 corn plant;
- c) harvesting grain on said hybrid corn plant and harvesting seed from the first set of heterotic corn plants;
- d) isolating said pharmaceutically active protein from said grain on said first set of hybrid plants;
- e) planting and growing said seed from said heterotic corn plants to form F1 hybrid plants;
- and
- f) isolating said pharmaceutically active protein from grain of F1 hybrid plants.
