Novel crystalline forms of topotecan hydrochloride and processes of making the same are disclosed.

A crystalline Form D of topotecan hydrochloride having powder X-ray diffraction peaks at 5.9, 13.9, 22.6, 23.2, and 26.5° 2θ (±0.2°).
A crystalline Form E of topotecan hydrochloride having powder X-ray diffraction peaks at 14.0, 18.8, 22.5, 25.4, and 25.7° 2θ (±0.2°).
