Abstract
A dynamic fixation medical implant for attachment to at least two bone anchors includes a longitudinal connecting member assembly having first and second rigid sections, at least one section having a convex or frusto-conical surface held in spaced relation with the other section by an elastic spacer. The spacer may be an over-mold that connects the first and second rigid sections. Some embodiments include an inner, tougher spacer and a separate over-molded spacer.
Claims22
In a medical implant assembly having at least two bone attachment structures cooperating with a longitudinal connecting member, the improvement wherein the longitudinal connecting member comprises:
- a) a first substantially rigid longitudinal connecting member section having a central axis, the first section having a first bone anchor attachment portion and an end portion tapering towards the central axis;
- b) a second substantially rigid longitudinal connecting member section having a second bone anchor attachment portion, the second section being in spaced relation with the first section;
- c) a molded elastic structure spanning between and attached to both the first and second sections, a molded spacer surrounding the tapered end portion of the first section.
In a medical implant assembly having at least two bone attachment structures cooperating with a longitudinal connecting member, the improvement wherein the longitudinal connecting member comprises:
- a) a first longitudinal connecting member section having a first bone anchor attachment portion and a first integral plate with a concave surface formed in an end of the first section located near the plate;
- b) a second longitudinal connecting member section having a second bone anchor attachment portion and a second integral plate with a substantially convex structure extending from the second plate, the convex structure being partially surrounded by the concave surface;
- and
- c) a molded elastic spacer disposed about the first and second plates and between the concave surface and the convex structure, the spacer gripping both the first and second connecting member sections.
