Abstract
A dynamic stabilization, motion preservation spinal implant system includes an anchor system, a horizontal rod system and a vertical rod system. The systems are modular so that various constructs and configurations can be created and customized to a patient.
Claims20
A spine implant comprising:
- a first rod having a first end and a second end;
- said first rod having a platform midway between the first end and the second end;
- a second rod connected to the platform transverse to said first rod;
- said second rod adapted for supporting a load between a first vertebra and a second vertebra and transmitting said load to said platform;
- said first rod being configured such that the platform deflects in response to said load transmitted from said second rod;
- said rod platform having a first load to deflection profile in a first direction of deflection;
- and
- said rod having a second load to deflection profile in a second direction of deflection.

A spine implant adapted to be fastened to one or more vertebra comprising:
- a first rod having a first end and a second end adapted to be secured to a first vertebra;
- said first rod having a platform midway between the first end and the second end;
- a second rod connected to the platform transverse to said first rod;
- said second rod adapted for supporting a load between a second vertebra and said first vertebra and transmitting said load to said platform;
- said first rod being configured such that said platform deflects in response to said load transmitted from said second rod;
- wherein said first rod is oriented about horizontal when implanted in a mammal and the mammal is about erect;
- and said first rod is configured such that said platform has greater resistance to deflection when the spine is in one of extension and flexion than when the spine in the other of extension and flexion.
