Abstract
Improved methods are provided for calibrating color on a color display coupled to a computer, which are useful for obtaining calibrated data in a virtual proof network for enabling different color devices to render consistent color. Methods involve user interactions with screens on the display to set color display parameters. An apparatus is also provided for calibrating a sensor which may be used for measuring color of a display in one or more of these methods.
Claims30
A method tor calibrating a color display coupled to a computer system comprising the steps of:
- displaying one or more screens on said display;
- adjusting at least one display control of the display when said one or more screens are displayed to provide superposition of color of the display based upon measurement of light associated with said one or more screens;
- setting the neutral balance and tone reproduction of the display in accordance with values stored on said computer system;
- enabling a measurement of ambient illumination with respect to said display;
- and
- providing one or more color transformations which enable accurate rendering of colors expressible in device independent units upon the display responsive to said measurement of ambient illumination.
A computer-readable storage medium encoded with a computer program for enabling color display calibration comprising:
- a program executable by a computer system which provides a user interface on a color display, said user interface having one or more screens, in which at least one of said screens enables a user to initiate one or more adjustments of at least one display characteristic of said color display to enable linear color mixture by the display based upon one or more measurements enabled by user visual judgments or a measuring instrument of one or more displayed screens, and to set neutral balance or tone reproduction of said color display in accordance with values stored on said computer system, and said program further enables measurement of ambient illumination by user visual judgments or a measuring instrument and provides one or more color transformations to enable more accurate rendering of color expressible in device independent units upon said color display responsive to said measurement of ambient illumination.
A method for calibrating a color display coupled to a computer system comprising the steps of:
- adjusting at least one display control of the display, responsive to measurement of light output of said display, so that said color display is operable for linear color mixture;
- setting the neutral balance and tone reproduction of the display in accordance with values stored on said computer system, responsive to one or more measurements of one or more screens displayed on said color display;
- and
- providing one or more color transformations which enable accurate rendering of colors expressible in device independent units upon said color display in accordance with ambient illumination.
