The invention refers to a specific isoform of MnSOD (Mn-superoxide dismutase) and its uses for protecting and curing subjects exposed to radiations, specifically space radiations.

A method for protecting a subject from exposure to radiations comprising administering to said subject a daily amount of from 0.08 mg/Kg body weight to 0.1 g/Kg body weight of rMnSOD of SEQ ID NO:1 for at least 15 days before exposure to radiations.
A method for treating a subject exposed to radiations comprising administering to said subject a daily amount of from 0.08 mg/Kg body weight to 0.1 g/Kg body weight of rMnSOD of SEQ ID NO:1 for at least 6 days after exposure to radiations.
