Abstract
The present invention relates to a cartridge, system, and methods that can be used for automated handling of fluids, such as blood. The cartridge can be configured to obtain a fluid sample from a sealed container, e.g., a septum sealed container. The system can be configured to handle the cartridge for operations such as obtaining a sample and/or dispensing the sample from the cartridge into, for example, a microtiter plate. The method of the invention can employ the cartridge or system of the invention.
Claims19
An apparatus comprising a support and a plurality of fluid receptacles;
- the support configured to retain the plurality of fluid receptacles;
- wherein each one of the plurality of fluid receptacles is configured to obtain a sample from a respective one of a plurality of sealed containers;
- wherein each one of the plurality of fluid receptacles includes a piercing system, a reservoir, a vent system, and a filling system;
- and wherein:
- the vent system is configured to provide fluid communication between its respective one of the plurality of sealed containers and the surroundings, the fluid communication provided by the vent system being defined in part by a flow pathway through the piercing system and through the reservoir;
- the filling system is configured to provide fluid transfer between its respective one of the plurality of sealed containers and the reservoir;
- the piercing system is configured to enter its respective one of the plurality of sealed containers;
- and
- the reservoir is configured to contain the fluid sample.
An apparatus comprising:
