Abstract
A respiratory mask assembly for delivering breathable gas to a patient includes a frame having a front surface and a rear surface adapted in use to face the patient. The frame includes a main body providing an aperture therethrough for the introduction of breathable gas into a nasal breathing cavity. An elbow assembly is swivelably coupled to the front surface of the frame. The elbow assembly includes a swivel elbow that defines an intake port and an exhaust port separated from the intake port using a baffle. The elbow assembly includes an end portion that interfaces with the aperture of the frame.
Claims89
A frame for a respiratory mask assembly that delivers breathable gas to a patient, the frame comprising:
- a main body having a front surface and a rear surface adapted in use to face the patient, the main body having an aperture provided therethrough for the introduction of breathable gas into a nasal breathing cavity defined by the frame;
- an elbow assembly supported by the main body;
- a wall extending from the front surface and surrounding the aperture, the wall having a substantially rigid flange at a distal end thereof that is structured to swivelably couple with the elbow assembly, wherein the flange extends radially outwards from the wall;
- and
- an inner wall and an outer wall each extending rearwardly from the rear surface, the inner and outer walls being spaced to define a channel therebetween that is structured to receive a side wall of a cushion so as to removably attach the cushion to the frame, wherein the inner and outer walls extend in a direction of engagement and disengagement of the cushion side wall with the channel.
A frame for use with a respiratory mask for delivering breathable gas to a patient, comprising:
- a front surface and a rear surface adapted in use to face the patient;
- a substantially rigid main body providing an aperture therethrough for the introduction of breathable gas into a nasal breathing cavity defined by the main body;
- and
- an elbow assembly swivelably coupled to the front surface of the frame, the elbow assembly including a swivel elbow,
- wherein the swivel elbow includes an end portion that is releasably engagable to a flange of the frame by pressing the end portion against the flange, wherein the flange extends radially outwards from the aperture.
A frame for use with a respiratory mask assembly for delivering breathable gas to a patient, comprising:
- a front surface and a rear surface adapted in use to face the patient;
- a substantially rigid main body providing an aperture therethrough for the introduction of breathable gas into a nasal breathing cavity defined by the main body;
- and
- an elbow assembly swivelably coupled to the front surface of the frame, the elbow assembly including a swivel elbow,
- wherein the swivel elbow includes an end portion that is configured to releasably engage by a snap action to a flange of the frame, wherein the flange extends radially outwards from the aperture.
A frame for use with a respiratory mask assembly for delivering breathable gas to a patient, comprising:
- a front surface and a rear surface adapted in use to face the patient;
- a main body providing an aperture therethrough for the introduction of breathable gas into a nasal breathing cavity;
- and
- an elbow assembly swivelably coupled to the front surface of the frame, the elbow assembly including a swivel elbow,
- wherein the swivel elbow includes an end portion having a resilient collar configured to engage a flange of the frame and be releasable from the flange by flexing portions on each side of the collar towards each other.
A respiratory mask assembly for delivering gas to a person, comprising:
- a patient interface defining a nasal cavity, an aperture provided to the patient interface for introduction of gas into the nasal cavity, and a flange adjacent the aperture;
- and
- an elbow swivelably coupled to the patient interface, the elbow comprising an end portion comprising at least one protrusion configured to engage the flange upon insertion of the end portion of the elbow into the aperture to releasably engage the elbow to the patient interface.
A respiratory mask assembly for delivering breathable gas to a patient, comprising:
- a frame having a front surface and a rear surface adapted in use to face the patient, the frame including a main body providing an aperture therethrough for the introduction of breathable gas into a nasal breathing cavity;
- and
- a quick-release elbow assembly swivelably coupled to the front surface of the frame, the elbow assembly including a swivel elbow,
- wherein the swivel elbow includes an end portion that allows quick release attachment to and detachment from the frame while allowing the elbow to swivel.
A respiratory mask assembly for delivering CPAP therapy to patient at a pressure of 4 to 20 cm H2O, the respiratory mask assembly comprising:
- a rigid frame;
- a soft cushion attached to the frame;
- and
- an elbow assembly, the elbow assembly including
- an elbow,
- a quick-release mechanism accessible from a front side of the frame to selectively couple and decouple the elbow assembly to the frame while allowing the elbow to rotate in a secured position.
A respiratory mask assembly for delivering breathable gas to a patient, comprising:
- a frame having a front side having a circular aperture and a rear side including a cushion adapted in use to face the patient, the frame including a main body including the circular aperture therethrough for the introduction of breathable gas into a nasal breathing cavity, a cylindrical wall defining the aperture and extending from the front surface, and a flange extending from the cylindrical wall substantially perpendicular to the axis of the circular aperture;
- and
- a swivel elbow assembly releasably attachable to the front side of the frame, the swivel elbow assembly comprising a swivel elbow having a first end configured to be concentrically surrounded by the circular wall of the frame when the swivel elbow assembly is attached to the frame, and a collar provided around the first end of the swivel elbow, the collar having a receiving space configured to receive at least a portion of the cylindrical wall of the frame, the collar also having an engagement portion configured to releasably engage the flange to releasably attach the swivel elbow assembly to the frame, the flange and the engagement portion being engaged by inserting the cylindrical wall into the receiving space and moving the flange and the engagement portion relative to each other in a first direction, and the engagement of the flange and the protrusion being released by moving the flange and the engagement portion relative to each other in a second direction opposite to the first direction.
