A method for producing a black color material comprising a condensation product of a pyrrole compound represented by the following formula (1) and a squaric acid represented by the following formula (2):
- and the condensation product being in the form of fine particles having a diameter of 20 nm or more and 400 nm or less,
- wherein the method comprises dissolving the pyrrole compound represented by formula (1) and the squaric acid represented by formula (2) in a water-containing reaction solvent, and, adding a catalyst to the reaction mixture.
