Abstract
Various embodiments of a wind turbine are disclosed having a plurality of pivotable slats disposed about a rotor coupled to one or more blades. Each of the plurality of slats can be pivoted such that the open slats on a windward side redirect the wind to cause rotation of the rotor and the closed slats on a leeward side retain at least a substantial portion of the wind within the interior.
Claims11
A wind turbine having a windward side and a leeward side depending upon a direction of an oncoming wind, comprising:
- a support structure;
- a rotor coupled to the support structure and having at least first and second blades, wherein each of the blades has at least one closable opening;
- a first slat disposed on the windward side and pivotally configured to be opened by the wind;
- a second slat disposed on the leeward side and pivotally configured to be closed by the wind;
- and
- a plate that directs a flow of air against the blades from below the slats.
