Abstract
A system and method for managing an IP telephony network that uses a configuration map for organizing sites in a tree-like hierarchy. The system is capable of managing the addition, removal and movement of IP telephony elements within an IP telephony network and locating services and IP telephony elements within the IP telephony network in an efficient manner.
Claims24
A method for adding an extension to a site in an IP telephony network comprising:
- updating, with a processor, a configuration map as to a location of the extension, the configuration map including a location of each site in the IP telephony network relative to each other site and the configuration map organizing sites in the IP telephony network according to a tree-like hierarchy;
- and
- updating, with the processor, a server in the IP telephony network as to the location of the extension based on the configuration map.
A method for adding a switch to a site in an IP telephony network comprising:
- providing the switch with a site map;
- assigning, with a processor, a server in the IP telephony network to provide services for the switch and any IP telephony elements connected to the switch;
- updating, with the processor, a configuration map as to a location of the switch, the configuration map including a location of each site in the IP telephony network relative to each other site and the configuration map organizing sites in the IP telephony network according to a tree-like hierarchy;
- and
- updating, with the processor, a server in the IP telephony network as to the location of the switch based on the configuration map.
A method for removing an extension from a site in an IP telephony network comprising:
- updating, with a processor, a configuration map of the removal of the extension, the configuration map including a location of each site in the IP telephony network relative to each other site and the configuration map organizing sites in the IP telephony network according to a tree-like hierarchy;
- and
- updating, with the processor, a server in the IP telephony network of the removal of the extension based on the configuration map.
A method for removing a switch from a site in an IP telephony network comprising:
- updating, with a processor, a configuration map of the removal of the switch and any IP telephony elements connected to the switch, the configuration map including a location of each site in the IP telephony network relative to each other site and the configuration map organizing sites in the IP telephony network according to a tree-like hierarchy;
- and
- updating, with the processor, a server in the IP telephony network of the removal of the switch and any IP telephony elements connected to the switch based on the configuration map.
A method for moving a switch from a first location in an IP telephony network to a second location in the IP telephony network comprising:
- updating, with a processor, a configuration map of the removal of the switch and any IP telephony elements connected to the switch from the first location in the IP telephony network, the configuration map including a location of each site in the IP telephony network relative to each other site and the configuration map organizing sites in the IP telephony network according to a tree-like hierarchy;
- updating, with the processor, a server of the removal of the switch based on the configuration map;
- providing the new switch with a site map;
- assigning, with the processor, a server in the IP telephony network to provide services for the new switch;
- updating, with the processor, the configuration map as to the second location and the new switch;
- and
- updating, with the processor, an IP telephony element in the IP telephony network of the movement of the switch based on the configuration map.
A method for moving a switch from a first location in an IP telephony network to a second location in the IP telephony network comprising:
- updating, with a processor, a configuration map of the movement of the switch from the first location to the second location in the IP telephony network, the configuration map including a location of each site in the IP telephony network relative to each other site and the configuration map organizing sites in the IP telephony network according to a tree-like hierarchy;
- and
- updating, with the processor, an IP telephony element in the IP telephony network of the movement of the switch from the first location to the second location in the IP telephony network based on the configuration map.
