Method and system for processing texture samples with programmable offset positions

A computing device configured to perform a texture operation, the computing device comprising:

• a processing unit with a texture unit;
• and
• a local memory coupled to the processing unit containing a texture map, wherein the texture unit is configured to:
• derive a first destined texel position based on an original sample position associated with a pixel projected in a texture map and a first offset position specified by a user, wherein the first destined texel position is also associated with a first vector that originates at the original sample position and points in a different direction compared with a second vector that also originates at the original sample position and is associated with a second destined texel position;
• and
• fetch texel attributes at the first destined texel position for the texture operation.
