Abstract
The invention provides isolated nucleic acid molecules which encode novel fatty acid hydroxylases. The invention also provides recombinant expression vectors including hydroxylase nucleic acid molecules, host cells into which the expression vectors have been introduced, and methods for the production of hydroxyl fatty acids such as 12-hydroxyoctadec-9-enoic acid (ricinoleic acid).
Claims43
An isolated nucleic acid molecule selected from the group consisting of
- a) an isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1, or the full complement thereof;
- b) an isolated nucleic acid molecule which encodes a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, or the full complement thereof;
- c) an isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence which is at least 85% identical to the entire nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1, or the full complement thereof;
- d) an isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence which hybridizes to the complement of the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 in 4× sodium chloride/sodium citrate (SSC), at about 65-70° C., followed by one or more washes in 1×SSC, at about 65-70° C., or the full complement thereof;
- e) an isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising a fragment of at least 25 contiguous nucleotides of the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1, or the full complement thereof;
- and
- f) an isolated nucleic acid molecule which encodes a polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence which is at least 85% identical to the entire amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, or the full complement thereof.
