A linear polymer comprising carborane, siloxane, and acetylene units, which may be cross-linked to a cured polymer and/or pyrolyzed to a ceramic.

A cured polymer comprising the formula:
- wherein m, n, w, and z are independently selected integers greater than or equal to 1;
- wherein x and y are independently selected integers greater than or equal to 0;
- wherein q is an integer from 3 to 16;
- wherein q′ is an integer from 0 to 16;
- wherein each R group is an independently selected organic group;
- wherein each R′ group is an independently selected organic group;
- wherein
- represents a group made from an alkynylene group when m is 1 or conjugated alkynylene groups when m is greater than 1, crosslinked to another such group;
- and
- wherein CBqHq′C is a carborane group.
