Abstract
A method of manufacturing a drug delivery system uses gas cluster ion beam irradiation on an outer surface of a member to determine one or more characteristics of the drug delivery system.
Claims8
A method for producing a drug delivery system, comprising the steps of:
- providing a member including a combination of a drug substance and a polymer or other material by forming a cohesive mixture of the drug substance and the polymer or other material on a surface of a medical device;
- and
- irradiating an outer surface of the member with a gas cluster ion beam to determine a release rate for the drug substance from the member.
A method for producing a drug delivery system, comprising the steps of:
- providing a member including a combination of a drug substance and a polymer or other material;
- and
- irradiating an outer surface of the member with a gas cluster ion beam to determine a release rate for the drug substance from the member by forming an encapsulating layer on at least an external surface of the member, which encapsulating layer is adapted to control release of the drug substance from the member.
A method for producing a drug delivery system, comprising the steps of:
- providing a member including a combination of a drug substance and a polymer or other material by providing a polymer element and adhering a drug substance to an outer surface of the polymer element;
- and
- irradiating an outer surface of the member with a gas cluster ion beam to determine a release rate for the drug substance from the member.
