Abstract
A valve flow-directing vessel (42) comprising a sleeve (44) having a threaded installation portion (84) for connection to a receiving member, a plunger (46) movable within the sleeve (44) between a closed position and an opened position, and an orifice insert (48/50) fixedly attached to the sleeve (44). The orifice insert (48/50) defines an orifice (132) that is sealed when the plunger (46) is in the closed position and unsealed when the plunger (46) is in the opened position. The orifice (132) is the entrance to a passageway (130) having an exit (134) communicating with a delivery passage of the receiving member, and this exit (134) is positioned beyond the threaded installation portion (84) of the sleeve (44).
Claims18
A flow-directing vessel for installation into a receiving member having an interfacing cavity with a cylindrical wall, a first passage, and a second passage, the vessel comprising:
- a sleeve, a plunger movable relative to the sleeve, and a capsule;
- the sleeve having a tubular inner surface and a mating portion for mating with the cylindrical wall of the interfacing cavity;
- the capsule having an orifice, a capsule opening for communicating with the second passage in the receiving member when the vessel is installed in the receiving member, and an outer wall surrounding a passageway extending through the capsule between the capsule opening and the orifice;
- a retention device extending radially from the outer wall of the capsule, which retention device is held in the sleeve at its radially outer periphery with a press fit and has at least one through passage fluidly connecting first and second chambers on opposite sides of the retention device, the first chamber providing for communication with the first passage when the vessel is installed in the receiving member;
- and
- the plunger being movable relative to the sleeve and the orifice to open and close the orifice to control fluid flow between the second chamber and the capsule opening.
A flow-directing vessel for installation into a receiving member having an interfacing cavity with a cylindrical wall, a first passage, and a second passage, the vessel comprising:
- a sleeve, a plunger movable relative to the sleeve, and a capsule;
- the sleeve having a tubular inner surface and a mating portion for mating with the cylindrical wall of the interfacing cavity;
- the capsule having an orifice, a capsule opening for communicating with the second passage in the receiving member when the vessel is installed in the receiving member, and an outer wall surrounding a passageway extending through the capsule between the capsule opening and the orifice;
- a retention device extending radially from the inner surface of the sleeve, which retention device is held around the capsule at its radially inner periphery with a press fit and has at least one through passage fluidly connecting first and second chambers on opposite sides of the retention device, the first chamber providing for communication with the first passage when the vessel is installed in the receiving member;
- and
- the plunger being movable relative to the sleeve and the orifice to open and close the orifice to control fluid flow between the second chamber and the capsule opening.
A method of assembling a flow-directing vessel that is installable in a receiving member having an interfacing cavity with a cylindrical wall, a first passage, and a second passage, the method comprising:
- obtaining a sleeve having a tubular inner surface and a mating portion for mating with the cylindrical wall of the interfacing cavity;
- obtaining a capsule having an orifice, a capsule opening for communicating with the second passage in the receiving member when the vessel is installed in the receiving member, and a tubular outer wall surrounding a passageway extending through the capsule between the capsule opening and the orifice;
- securing the capsule in the sleeve by means of a press fit interaction between the capsule or the sleeve and a peripheral edge of a retention device that extends radially with respect to the tubular outer wall of the capsule.
