Abstract
A method and apparatus for configuring a user interface is disclosed. The method and apparatus allow for the determination of a function provided by the user interface using a skin. Such a skin includes information regarding an object, where the object represents an entity managed using the user interface.
Claims16
A method implemented on a computer, the method comprising:
- adapting a graphical user interface (GUI) to provide a function, wherein:
- the adapting comprises customizing the GUI using an extension, the extension is based at least in part on product-specific characteristics of a digitally controlled device,
- the extension is configured to interact with an object,
- the object represents the digitally controlled device,
- the function is configured to allow the GUI to be used to control the digitally controlled device, and
- the adapting comprises supporting the function in the GUI by providing the GUI with access to the extension;
- and
- managing the digitally controlled device, wherein
- the managing is performed using a processor, and
- the managing comprises interacting with the object using the extension in response to an input received via the GUI.
