Abstract
The claimed subject matter provides systems and/or methods that facilitate utilizing a motion control timing model to coordinate operations associated with controlling motion within an industrial automation environment. For example, a cycle timing component can implement timing set forth by a timing model (e.g., that can be selected, preset, . . . ). Pursuant to an illustration, the cycle timing component can utilize the timing model to coordinate transmitting data, receiving data, performing calculations associated with data (e.g., to generate command(s)), capturing data, applying received commands, and so forth.

A system that facilitates coordinating timing associated with motion control in an industrial automation environment, comprising:
- a motion control component that communicates with a disparate motion control component, which has at least one of a different update rate or a different phase offset than that of the motion control component, via a network connection by utilizing a time stamping protocol to provide an update, wherein the time stamping protocol facilitates communication of at least a time stamp indicative of a measurement taken between the motion control component and the disparate motion control component;
- and
- a cycle timing component that utilizes a timing model, which supports the at least one of the different update rate or the different phase offset by employing the time stamp, to coordinate timing of operations of the motion control component related to the update by performing the operations within at least one coarse update period, wherein the operations are performed on dynamic data related to the motion control, the dynamic data employs a variable data structure that varies in size from the update to a next update.
A method that facilitates coordinating motion control in an industrial automation environment, comprising:
- communicating between disparate motion control components that support at least one of disparate update rates or disparate phase offsets, via a network connection to provide an update associated with controlling motion within the industrial automation environment by utilizing a time stamping protocol, the time stamping protocol enables communication of data that varies in at least one of size or structure during disparate updates by communicating at least a time stamp, indicative of when a measurement is taken, between the disparate motion control components;
- and
- coordinating timing of operations associated with the update by employing a timing model related to motion control that supports the at least one of the disparate update rates or disparate phase offsets by employing the time stamp and facilitates performing the operations within at least one coarse update period.
A system for coordinating motion control in an industrial automation environment, comprising
- means for providing an update associated with controlling motion between disparate motion control components, which support at least one of disparate update rates or disparate phase offsets, within the industrial automation environment by utilizing a time stamping protocol that includes communication of a time stamp that is indicative of when a measurement is taken, between the disparate motion control components;
- and
- means for coordinating a timing of operations associated with the update by employing a timing model related to motion control that supports the at least one of the disparate update rates or disparate phase offsets by employing the time stamp and facilitates performing the operations within at least one coarse update period wherein the operations are performed on dynamic data related to the motion control, the dynamic data varies in at least one of size or structure from the update to a next update.
