Abstract
A cleaning composition including which comprises a surfactant and a propionate as co-surfactant and/or co-solvent. The composition can be used, for example, to clean drilling mud containing oils.

A microemulsion cleaning composition comprising a surfactant and a propionate as co-surfactant and/or co-solvent wherein the propionate is selected from the group consisting of n-propyl propionate, n-butyl propionate, n-pentyl propionate, ethyl-3-ethoxy propionate, ethyl-(S)-2-hydroxy propionate, isopropyl-S-(−)-2-hydroxy propionate, propyl-S-(−)-2-hydroxy propionate, butyl-(s)-2-hydroxy propionate and mixtures thereof.
