Abstract
Disclosed is a phase change ink composition comprising a phase change ink carrier and a colorant compound of the formula wherein Y is a hydrogen atom or a bromine atom, n is an integer of 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, R1 is an alkylene group, an arylene group, an arylalkylene group, or an alkylarylene group, provided that no oxygen atom creates a linkage, X is —O— or —NR3— wherein R3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group, and R2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group.

A phase change ink composition comprising a phase change ink carrier and a colorant compound of the formula
- wherein Y is a hydrogen atom or a bromine atom;
- n is an integer of 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4;
- R1 is an alkylene group, an arylene group, an arylalkylene group, or an alkylarylene group, provided that no oxygen atom creates a
- linkage;
- X is —O— or —NR3—;
- wherein R3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group, and R2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group and
- wherein at least one of R2 and R3 is other than hydrogen and the total number of carbon atoms in R2+R3 is at least 18, and wherein when X is —O—, R2 is other than hydrogen and the total number of carbon atoms in R2 is at least 18;
- provided that when X is —NR3—, either (1) n is 2, (2) R1 is a substituted alkylene group, (3) R1 is an alkylene group wherein hetero atoms selected from oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, silicon, phosphorus, or mixtures thereof are present in the alkylene group, (4) R1 is an arylene group, (5) R1 is an arylalkylene group or an alkylarylene group, (6) R2 is an aryl group, or (7) R2 is an arylalkyl group or an alkylaryl group.
A phase change ink composition comprising a phase change ink carrier and a colorant compound of the formula
- Y and Y′ each, independently of the other, are a hydrogen atom or a bromine atom, n and n′ each, independently of the other, is an integer of 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, R1 and R1′ each, independently of the other, is an alkylene group, an arylene group, an arylalkylene group, or an alkylarylene group, provided that no oxygen atom creates a
- linkage, X and X′ each, independently of the other, is —O— or —NR3— wherein each R3, independently of the other, is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group, and R2 is an alkylene group, an arylene group, an arylalkylene group, or an alkylarylene group.
A phase change ink composition comprising a phase change ink carrier and a colorant compound comprising three or more moieties of the formula
- wherein each Y, independently of the others, is a hydrogen atom or a bromine atom, each n, independently of the others, is an integer of 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, each R1, independently of the others, is an alkylene group, an arylene group, an arylalkylene group, or an alkylarylene group, provided that no oxygen atom creates a
- linkage, and each X, independently of the others, is —O— or —NR3— wherein each R3, independently of the others, is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group.
A process which comprises (1) incorporating into an ink jet printing apparatus a phase change ink composition comprising a phase change ink carrier and a colorant compound of the formula
- wherein Y is a hydrogen atom or a bromine atom, n is an integer of 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, R1 is an alkylene group, an arylene group, an arylalkylene group, or an alkylarylene group, provided that no oxygen atom creates a
- linkage, X is —O— or —NR3— wherein R3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group, and R2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group;
- (2) melting the ink;
- and (3) causing droplets of the melted ink to be ejected in an imagewise pattern onto a substrate.
