Abstract
A method of use for a high shear device incorporated into a process or system for the production of acetaldehyde from ethylene as a reactor device is shown to be capable of decreasing mass transfer limitations, by forming a feed stream emulsion, and thereby enhancing the acetaldehyde production process in the system.
Claims12
A system for the production of acetaldehyde, the system comprising;
- a pump for pressurizing a vessel having an aqueous solution;
- a gas inlet positioned on the vessel, for introducing dispersible oxidant gas bubbles into the pressurized aqueous solution;
- a high shear device, having an inlet and an outlet, wherein the inlet fluidly connected to the vessel and the gas inlet, the high shear device for forming a dispersion of the oxidant gas bubbles in the pressurized aqueous solution, wherein the dispersion has an average gas bubble diameter of less than about 5 μm;
- and
- a reactor fluidly connected to the high shear device outlet, comprising a composite catalyst for the redox reaction of ethylene to acetaldehyde.
