The invention relates to the production of coronaviruses. In particular, the invention relates to methods for producing SARS-CoV by using cells expressing a functional SARS-CoV receptor.

A cell derived from a cell as deposited under ECACC no. 96022940, wherein the cell is engineered to express human ACE2 protein by introduction therein of a plasmid vector comprising a nucleic acid molecule encoding the human ACE2 protein.
