A host cell engineered to overexpress (a) alpha 1,2 mannosidase (MAN1C1) polypeptide comprising at least 85% identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:

• 2 or a nucleotide sequence tat hybridizes under stringent conditions comprising 0.015M sodium chloride, 0.0015M sodium citrate at 65-68° C., or 0.015M sodium chloride, 0.0015M sodium citrate, and 50% formamide at 42° C. to the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
• 1 and (b) a glycoprotein of interest, wherein the MAN1C1 polypeptide is expressed at a level that increases specific productivity (pg/cell/day) of said glycoprotein of interest compared to an unaltered host cell.
