Environmentally benign anti-icing or deicing fluids employing triglyceride processing by-products

A process for producing a deicing and/or anti-icing agent containing glycerin and salt, said process comprising:

• processing a by-product from a triglyceride transesterfication process for the production of monoesters, said by-product containing glycerin and salt(s), and said processing comprises distilling said by-product to produce an essentially salt-free, glycerin-containing overhead product, optionally comprising water and said deicing and/or anti-icing agent as the bottoms stream.
