Abstract
One embodiment includes an insert including a body portion; a plurality of tabs extending from the body portion, wherein the tabs are tapered; and wherein the insert is constructed and arranged to provide damping.
Claims9
A method of manufacturing a damped part comprising:
- providing an insert comprising a body portion comprising an inner edge and an outer edge;
- a plurality of tabs extending from at least one of the inner edge or outer edge of the body portion and wherein the tabs are tapered;
- positioning the insert in a mold such that the plurality of tabs at least assist in holding the insert in a desired position in the mold;
- and
- casting a material comprising a metal around the insert to form a part.
